Taiwan to Sell 4G Spectrums in 2.6GHz Frequency in 2015
August 08, 2014

Taiwan's NCC (National Communications Commission) is planning to auction licenses of 4G spectrums in the 2.6 GHz frequency band for both FDD-LTE (Frequency Division Duplexing-Long Term Evolution) and TD-LTE (Time Division-Long Term Evolution) technologies in 2015, reported Economic Daily News on August 8. Base price of the auction is set at NT$15 billion (US$500 million; US$1=NT$30.022). A total of 190 MHz spectrum bands will be released, of which 90 MHz are currently used by WiMAX operators, including VeeTIME, Global Mobile, Tatung InfoComm, and Vmax. Last year, the country auctioned its first 4G licenses for spectrums in 700 MHz, 900 MHz, and 1,800 MHz, with a concluding bid price of NT$118.6 billion (US$3.95 billion)—2.3 times more than the base price of NT$35.9 billion (USD1.2 billion).
